Sometimes you miss laying down ink and painting. You just need to brush up on some skills. Use it or lose it they say. This was a fun study to pay homage to one of the coolest objects to loot a new weapon in the beautifully crafted Borderlands 3. Originally masterfully created by Paul Presley in the shipped version of the game.

My take, a slightly newer model by the fine folks of Dahl, still suffers from the rusting issues they have with the septic system but the users have tried to remedy the odor problem with some clever hacks. High polys were created in Zbrush, all retopology was completed in Modo. All of the texturing was performed in Substance Painter on a single 4k texture map. Once I brought it in engine I followed a great tutorial by the folks at Epic to build a toon outline post process shader. Very informative exercise.
