This is an examination of skills I've been developing. Starting with concept art produced by Atomhawk for NetherRealm Studios for their Mortal Kombat reboot in 2013, I wanted to "remaster" elements from Shao Khan's throne room arena in a similar engine to the one used by NetherRealm Studios' MK11, Unreal 4. I took some liberties with their original designs as also created props of my own design for this take on a classic environment. I used Zbrush for sculpting models, Modo for retopology and other modeling tasks, Substance Painter and Designer for developing textures and Houdini for creating the fire effects. This has been a pleasure to work on and includes quite a few "first attempts" at some of the 3D skills on display. I'm a total Noob (heh) when it comes to lighting in Unreal so this has been a fun exercise to learn more about that process. I'm really looking forward to pushing my skills even further next time for continual improvement.
